Lego City – Finn’s Bricks https://finnsbricks.com A Life in Lego Sun, 20 Jan 2019 21:16:12 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.2.3 Lego City Forest Tractor https://finnsbricks.com/lego-city-forest-tractor/ Sun, 20 Jan 2019 20:59:30 +0000 https://finnsbricks.com/?p=79 “Don’t forget to go and sort the garden out.” Yes, I’ve been asked to do that a lot. But today I answered, “yeah, of course” and Finn and I went into the garden. Sadly, we didn’t go alone. We went with his brand new lego city forest tractor. And it sure did help us sort everything out.

Building this set was a lot of fun. It’s straight forward enough that Finn could do most of it himself and he particularly liked the big wheels, which it turns out, are a great toy in their own right. I suspect that rolling them across the table will be a fun game even without the rest of the set. But the tractor build is actually pretty sturdy – as advertised.

Forest tractor in action.

The tractor itself has four big wheels and a ladder to get up to the drivers cabin. It has a forward facing steering wheel and rear facing controls to “control” the arm and claw.

We did a lot of driving around and changing from front to back when we got there. The cabin layout makes this pretty easy and certainly not to fiddly for younger kids.

The claw grabbing a log

The claw itself is easily capable of holding the logs and moving them around. I’ll admit to expecting it to drop them more frequently but so far they haven’t let me down.

The rear of the tractor has two chains that attach the logs for transport. That worked pretty well (but not on the bigger sticks I was supposed to be sorting out!) There is also space to carry the spade and chain saw so you can move from site to site during role play.

Mini Figure

The only downside to this set it there is only one mini figure. In fact that was Finn’s only negative comment in a massive bunch of positive and fun ones while playing with the forest tractor.

That being said I did quite like the lumberjack. He comes complete with stubble, uniform and a hat with ear defenders. He even has a wry smile so at least he enjoys his job.

Lego lumberjack with tools

Accessory wise the set includes a log stand, a chain saw, a small tree and a shovel. In our game we didn’t really use the shovel and the small tree was decorative but we did have a lot of fun using the chain saw to chop up the trees on the log stand. Our lumberjack was very busy.

Conclusion

Overall, we had a lot of fun with this set. There isn’t much to complain about – other than maybe it would be better with another minifigure. The only other downside was it didn’t really help sort the garden out. Maybe we’ll do that next week. In the mean time, we’re off the play some more.
