Darth Vaders Transformation

Something a little different today. Finn needed some education on how Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader. So I decided, what better way to do that than with Lego Set 75183 Darth Vader’s Transformation.

The set is quite small and quick to build. That being said it was quite fun and great to see elements from Revenge Of The Sith coming together. It also meant we were able to get straight into his education – er, I mean playing.

In case you don’t know, Anakin has just been beaten by Obi Wan and left for dead. However, Emperor Palpatine finds him alive and transports him to his medical bay.

This set, as you can see, is set in the medical bay. We have an Anakin Skywalker – post battle – mini-figure. He’s printed well to appear like he just lost. He can be attached to the bed in the centre so the medical droids can work on him. From my memory, it’s a surprisingly accurate recreation of the film.

We zoom in to see the medical droids working on Anakin.

As the operation continues Anakin starts to turn into Darth Vader. At this point, we reach the main play feature of this set. The bed can be turned over the reveal the underside of the bed. It looks the same but now we have The Darth Vader mini-figure. It’s a clever way to “transform” into Darth Vader and it works pretty well.

Once the medical droids have done their job, all that remains is to place Darth Vader’s helmet on his head. This is done by a lever that holds it. You just push it down and it goes on his head. In application it works ok but not always very easy. Sometimes it’s not lined up right and the helmet just falls off and you’ll have to try again. It’s not my favourite part of the set which is a little disappointing as that was a big moment in the film.

I always remember when the helmet is finally on as being an epic dramatic moment in the film. The weight of what we know is to come in a very simple image. The sound of Darth Vader breathing still brings chills to my spin. But in a good way.

Once Darth Vader is ready the bed lifts him up. Just like in the film. At this point we also see Emperor Palpatine begin talking to the new Lord Vader.

Darth Vader steps off the bed. Palpatine tells hims Padme is dead and his rage is complete. Darth Vader will become the villain we know is coming.

The Transformation of Darth Vader is complete.

Conclusion

Overall, this has been a fun set. The main reason is it was a cheap way to add some major star wars mini-figures to my collection. You get Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.

While not mini-figures you also get medical droids that are quite good builds. This one is my favourite droid and he comes with 6 different tools to help him make Darth Vader

I’d recommend this set mainly for the characters. It’s pretty good fun and at this price point you can’t go wrong.
