Ninjago Destiny’s Bounty Review

Lego set 70618, The Destiny’s Bounty, is awesome. There, I said it. I just couldn’t wait. This is my favourite set in a long time. Yes, even better than the Temple of The Ultimate Ultimate Weapon.

Weighing in at 15 numbered bags, and two additional bags for larger pieces, it is a big set. There are stickers and a bag for the sails and, as you’d expect, a fairly big instruction manual.

The Mini-Figures

This set comes complete with all 6 of the Ninja’s and Master Wu. The ninja all have their ninja masks and Nya has cloth for her dress.

They’re all printed front and back, body and legs, and they have double sided faces. Each has their respective weapons and the set includes lots of other weapons spread around the ship. Their are more weapons than hands so they’ll never be short of tools to play with.

Master Wu also has cloth, his beard and hat.

Master Wu Lego Mini-Figure

The figures are great and it’s nice to have them all in one set. Usually, the characters are a big part of the reason I like a set. But in this case, and while they are still good, the set itself is just another level.

Destiny’s Bounty

The ship is a really fun build with lots of variety and lots of detail throughout. It’s 55cm long, 17cm wide and 45cm high. It’s a big ship. In fact, bigger than any of the pirate ships I had as a kid. But the actual base is smaller than you think because of how it’s built.

Lego Destinys Bounty

As you can see, she is a thing of beauty.

The hull is a solid build. The outside has four bumpers each side and an anchor.

Destinys Bounty Hull

The anchor can be raised or lowered from the main deck.

Destinys Bounty Anchor

The front of the ship has two dragon heads. There is also a gayway on the front and the whole thing articulates incase you want to raise the heads up. I’m not sure why and I don’t remember this from the film.

The dragon heads are well detailed and have articulating mouths which mean you can make them look more menacing if you want.

Below Deck

Below deck we have Master Wu’s bedroom. There is a head board, a side board with lamps and a family picture. There is a bed with articulating cover for Master Wu to sleep in. There are also various weapons on the side. You’ll also notice there is a letter and writing equipment on the head board. As I said, lots of details.

Master Wu Bedroom

Next to the bedroom is a bathroom. There is a sink and a toilet. On the other wall is more weaponry. I’m starting to think Master Wu might be paranoid.

Main Deck

The Destiny’s Bounty is a modular construction which makes it easy to access the various rooms. The main deck sits on top on the lower section and is easy to get off yet still solid and easy to play on. I must admit to being slightly surprised by how solid it is.

Destinys Bounty Main Deck

As you can see there is a lot on the main deck.

There are two weapons storage compartments at the front and immediately next to that you’ll see the control for the anchors. There is a section of deck above Master Wu’s bedroom. There is a pot plant which stands in front of the dojo – see below. There are two masts on the main deck and a string of lamps and flags between them.

On the sides there are lots of plants, lamps and another storage bin full of fish. There is also a broom and spade.

Side Storage

In the centre, two more storage bins. One has fish from today’s catch and the other with some playing cards. There is a teapot and cup for refreshments.

Center Section

On the other side are more plants and two fishing rodes. You’ll notice there are more pot plants and a lamp.

Fishing rodes

I love the details on the main deck. There is a lot going on and still lots of space for the mini-figures. I’m really impressed with this section.

The Dojo

Just off the main deck is Master Wu’s Dojo. The entrance has a ladder to the side to get up to the next level and a plant on the other side. There is a poster outside which I can only assume says “Dojo”.

Dojo Entrance

The exterior of the dojo is beautifully decorated with bamboo.

Dojo Exterior

Inside there is a nice matted floor, a training dummy and lots more weapons. There is space to pose the ninja training, but not lots.

Inside the dojo 1
Inside the dojo 2

The dojo is pretty good fun although I would like more space to pose the mini-figures. Again, there is a lot of detail and overall it looks great.

Balcony

At the rear or the dojo is a balcony with a telescope. This is a nice little area and, especially as part of the overall feel of the rear, looks great. I can see Master Wu spending a lot of time reflecting and meditating in the quiet of this balcony.

Balcony

There is also the name plates for the Destiny’s Bounty.

The Helm

The upper deck has the helm and navigation equipment. It’s also quite spacious and can fit lots of mini-figures.

Helm

As you can see there are plant pots on the side and a big space for the helmsman. He even has a compass.

Inside the cabin there is a map and navigation equipment. There is also a grill to allow light into the dojo below.

Navigation

There is a roof that can be rolled back to give easy access to the area.

Again, the detail is fantastic in this cabin.

Conclusion

This is a fantastic set. The detail is amazing and it is definitely my favourite set in a long time. You get the whole set of ninja and master wu and the ship itself is just amazing.

I’ve already got lots of idea for photography and Finn has been really enjoying playing with the set. Get it, you won’t be disappointed.
