Are you brave enough to enter the Temple of Resurrection, lego ninjago set 70643? In case you don’t know, this is a set from season 8 of the Ninjago TV series. The site of Lord Garmadon’s resurrection with the help of Princess Harumi and the Sons of Garmadon. And it’s a great set. Let’s take a look.

Mini-Figures

This set comes with 7 mini-figures which is about right for this level of set.

We have Lloyd, the green ninja. He comes complete with his sword and two katanas in his sheath. He has a double sided face so you can make him happy or angry.

"Lloyd

Cole is also present, complete with his hammer and two katana. He also has a sheath. He also has a double sided face to make him happy or angry. There is also a harness to carry a baby – cleverly made to be swaddled. I won’t spoil who the baby is in case you haven’t seen the series.

"Cole"

"Cole

Turning to the baddies we have Princess Harumi. I really like this mini-figure and she is well done with prints on the body and legs. She also sports an awesome cape, has great make up and a spectacular hair piece. Here she is on the balcony.

"Lego

Next we have Hutchins with his stick. He is also very well done with prints on his body and legs. What a great hat, and those shoulder pads are fantastic.

"Hutchins"

Next up is Mr E, one of the generals of the Sons of Garmadon. He has two red katana and a helmet and very sinister looking eyes.

"Mr

Chopper Maroon has his spanner and a katana and another great hair piece and a mask.

"Chopper

Lastly, Lord Garmadon is resurrected.

"Lord

The mini-figures in this set are great. Well printed, lots of weapons and good to have lots of baddies.

The Temple of Resurrection

The build was really good fun. The temple itself is also really nice. The bottom level is rocky with swamp underneath. Level one is a room and there is an interesting looking roof with a lot of play functionality – which we’ll get to shortly.

"Temple

The two rock formations both have shrubbery and a blue base piece so create the swamp effect. They also open out to reveal a skeleton with one leg and a bat. His other leg is on the other side protected by a spider and spiderweb.

We’ve played quite a bit using them to surprise the ninja as they approach the temple. It’s normally pretty good fun.

"Temple

To enter the temple theres a gangway with a red path. It could be the red carpet. Either way, it leads into the temple.

"Entrance

Inside the Temple

The path leads to the basement which has two sides, both of which are interesting.

There is a poster which is a sticker on each side. One appears to be of Lord Garmadon, the other appears to show the 3 One masks making Lord Garmadon – a reference to his resurrection. There is a kendo mask on one side and the other side has storage for some weapons. It’s a fairly small area for play but it does look good.

"Temple

Upper Level

The upper level is where most of our play happens. While the basement is interesting the upper level has easier accessibility and more going on, hence it’s been played with more.

"Temple

As you can see the upper level has lots more space. I really like the look of the balcony and it was the back drop for one of my favourite lego photographs of Lord Garmadon.

I also really like the lanterns which are well made and look great.

The two panels on either side rotate to reveal the masks. You can see the other side in this rear view.

"Temple

The upper level has two trap doors which are activated by pulling the bars out to let them drop. As you can imagine this has been one of the main play features – although it does drop intruders into the weapons chamber.

"Temple

Next we come to the main point of the temple. The resurrection of Lord Garmadon. The roof has a mechanical level that lowers the roof to reveal Lord Garmadon out of the flames.

"Lord

Being able to use the roof to reveal Lord Garmadon has been a great part of this set. It’s well executed and works really well.

Conclusion

Overall, this is a great set. The build was fun and it has a great selection of mini figures. Play wise, it’s also been really good with the exception of the lower level which is a bit small. The upper level is much better. The traps and the transformation of Garmadon are great for play. On a separate note, I really like the back drop for use in photography and I’ve even got a few more ideas I’ll get to one day.

I’d definitely recommend this set and I can see Finn playing with it for a long time to come.
