I found the figure fairly easy to pose and tried a few set ups with various apertures and set ups of rocks and stones. In the end I chose this one to edit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nI liked the pose and the stones gave some interest around him. The wall in the background is blurry enough that it will work once it’s been edited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Photoshop<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Molten Man is a very hot character so I first applied a brightness adjustment layer to reduce the overall brightness. I knew I’d want him to stand out as the honest part of the image so I reduced everything to start this process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Next I added a colour dodge adjustment layer. Using the white brush I added the heat effect on Molten Man and brightened the rest of the character to get him standing out from the now darker background. Hopefully you can see the glow makes quite a big difference to the original image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nThe trailer for the new Spiderman film shows Molten man attacking with fire so my next step was to add that effect. The fire from his canon was created by placing a fire image and using the perspective transform tool to make it appear to be coming out of the canon and towards us, the viewer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I added fire in various places and in the end settled on just the bottom corners for the fire layers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nCreating the background was a new technique for me. I used a pattern layer with a cloud texture. I increased it’s size and used a layer mask to remove the floor, stones and Molten Man. To create the glow I painted various colours of orange on a new layer and blended it with screen mode. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nNext I created the molten floor using the same technique. But this time it was a rock texture and a much bigger mask as the floor is a much smaller part of this image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nWith both layers done I adjusted the opacity because I thought it was a bit strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I then finished off by adding some smoke, sparks and dust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
